Description

A fistula brush is a specialized, disposable proctological tool designed for cleaning, debriding, and probing anal or rectovaginal fistula tracts. It helps identify internal openings, removes unhealthy granulation tissue (epithelium), and promotes tract healing, often paired with procedures like OTSC Proctology or VAAFT.
Key Uses and Functions
Mechanical Debridement: The brush removes the diseased epithelium from the fistula tract to promote healing.
Probing and Identification: It is used to trace the course of the fistula and locate internal openings.
Tissue Preparation: Prepares the fistula tract for further intervention, such as the placement of a Biodesign fistula plug.
Symptom Relief: Helps reduce pain, discharge, and burning sensations associated with the fistula.
Structure and Usage
Design: Typically consists of a semi-flexible wire with a brush section in the middle, featuring a probing olive at one end and an eyelet at the other.
Procedure: The brush is often inserted into the tract for 4-5 strokes to curette the area.
